A Shāstra or scripture is a sacred text. The ancient Indian tradition is the oldest living tradition in the world. The scriptures of this tradition are the most ancient spiritual knowledge in the world handed down from generation to generation since times immemorial through the ‘Shruti” tradition. They were written down much later. The word Shruti means that which is heard.
