Mahavigyan by Sri Sri 108 Mahatma Baikaldas Part -7

Now I am writing about the third vikar – form. Form is seen by the eyes. Form cannot be elaborated without them. These may be pure or impure.

Janani sam jane par nari
Dhan paraye vish se vish bhari

Consider other’s woman as mother
Other’s wealth as more venomous than venom

Tusidas ji has written that the mistake of eyes is that they go for beauty. But their function is to see. They can do nothing. Their friend is very powerful. Who is that? It is the mind. The mind chases the sight and frequently careens out of control. Friends should be like mind is of eyes. But nowadays friends inflict pain. The mind comes under control only when it is struck. It feels pain due to the eyes. After being inert, it gradually improves to reach from the gross to the super conscious. How is it transformed? - When it meets the third eye of wisdom. There is no amazement that just as following the eyes inflicts pain upon it, following the third eye bestows pleasure. It is transformed from inert to spiritual.

From very beginning, evidence is found in the scriptures of inert men and women. Here I have given the names of some of them. It would be hardly appropriate if I include my name in this list, because I am more inert than the most inert. Valmiki, Tulsidas, Surdas, Shabri, Ahilya and Ravan who has the knowledge of four Vedas are some of them. All of them attained superconsciousness. A person is inert in the mother’s womb. From inertness, superconscious is attained. This is what our sages told us. These are the characteristics of form. When one’s mind achieves such understanding and looks upon the breasts of a lady, one thinks that (s)he was fed by the same breasts in early childhood. At that time one was totally dependent. Breasts were godlike for us. We must view them as glasses of nectar that nourished us. The vagina that imprisons us in this world is the conduit through which we have been coming into this world since Satyug. We came here by the same route in Treta, Dwapar and Kaliyug. No one is an exception, even Rishis and Munis had to follow this path. The same phallus (Ling) and vagina (Bhag) have been worshipped through the four Yugas and in the four Vedas. The bosom is the altar and phallus is Sruva (wooden ladle used in yajna). This is attested to by supra science.

Now, we shall deal with the topic of taste. Only the Rasna or the tongue can tell us what everything tastes like. It describes to us the taste of all edible matter that originates from the earth and which has water as its base - eyes, ears and nose are not capable of this as they have their own functions. The tongue differentiates between the sour, sweet, salty and bitter tastes. It is the function of speech to describe its good and bad characteristics. It is a vikara because it may be right or wrong. That is why the saints never cared overmuch for taste, they don’t criticize it. Tulsidas writes-

Ninda astute ubhay sam kahiyat bhinn na bhinn
Vandau Sitaram pad jinahi param priya khinn

Dispraise and praise are the same
Pray to Sita Ram, to whom the least are the dearest.

It is said, where there is attraction, there is bound to be repulsion. There is no doubt about it. Saints are indifferent to verbal praises and criticisms. They use speech to understand and explain beautiful spiritual books. Kabirdas writes here-

Sant bade parswaarathi sheetal unke ang
Tapan bujhavat aur ki dai -dai apan rang

Saints are the most selfless, their traits are calming
Providing relief to others with their conduct

Hence, those who try to break free from the circle of attraction and repulsion are untroubled by sins of Kaliyug. Speech can pollute as well as purify. Our ancient sages are not wrong. If free from this cycle, one achieves the summum bonum of human existence even in this dark age of Kaliyug with little effort.

Now, we shall embark upon a description of Gandh (Smell). Which thing is able to distinguish between scent and stench? It is the attribute of nose. This function cannot be performed by any other organ because all their functions are differentiated. If we smell a beautiful perfume, flower or any other pleasant smell through the nose, we feel pleasure. And when we smell something foul, we feel unpleasant. When we exhale, the outgoing air is vitiated by myriad impurities. The six schools of philosophy expounded by Shadanana in this manner, describing that one must love all that is good and dissociate oneself from all that is bad.

This body is not pure. Look how it is made - of excreta. How to describe it – the nose pulls in pure, clean air and exhales it impure and dirty.

The body is comprised of five elements but there are six vikar, how? The sixth one is condemned even by fools i.e. sparsh (touch) which relates to sex. Even listening about this vitiation is said to be polluting. If done at appropriate time it is innocent, otherwise is impure. It is the basis of creation of the world. Sex with one’s spouse is appreciated and, with others, it brings forth sorrow. The same act gives rise to pleasure as well as pain. The wise men who understand this choose the right path and always live in Satyug, free from the taint of Kaliyug. One’s impure actions create Kaliyug, otherwise it is Satyug. One should try not to be engrossed in these six vikaras much.

Janani sam jane par nari
Dhan paraye vish te vish bhari

Consider other’s woman as mother
Other’s wealth as more venomous than venom

Tulsidas ji aptly wrote this verse in Ramayana. The six schools of philosophy explain the supra science. Swamkartika did not divide it into different schools of philosophy. This division was done by Vasishtha in the Satyuga, causing divisions and dissensions. Who can convince whom?

Ihan na pachhpat kachhu rakhaun
Ved puran sant mat bakhaun

I am not putting forth my personal opinion here
I speak the views of Vedas, Puranas and saints

These are the sayings of the sages. It’s a sin to add bias to it. So, it is the view of the Vedas, Puranas and saints. The three attributes of rajas, tamas and sattva along with passion, anger, covetousness, delusion, jealousy and egoism are the nine main causes of pain. The other nine, which give rise to pleasure, are not disclosed to us by the wise ones. There is no systematic explanation of the latter. This is called supra wisdom. Now I will describe the seventh assortment. Read and understand.
