Mahavigyan By Shri Shri 108 Mahatma Baikal Das Part -5

Fourth element described is fire. Fire is also of five types- 1.Jathar Agni 2.Mand Agni 3.Chinta Agni 4.Badva Agni 5.Chita Agni

The main function of Jathar Agni is to ensure that the ingested food is purified. Thus purified, the food provides energy to the entire body just as butter is made by stirring curd with churner (wooden blender). Wood is lifeless but is very useful if its attributes are channelized towards fruitful purposes. In the same way, Jathar Agni is good. Thus it may be said that Jathar Agni is better than Chita Agni. Whatever brings pleasure, brings pain too. According to Puranas Jathar Agni, which resides in the forehead, protects the child in womb, where air contaminated by urine and stool troubles him. It also separate stool and urine from the body. The saints, who practice pranayam, meditate on same condition as was in womb. Our rishis made the way after study of many epics, which we know even in this Kaliyug.

Mand Agni runs through whole body but it resides mainly in Brahmand. When Jathar Agni arises strongly, mind becomes disturbed and makes the man mad. Therefore, food for Jathar should be good in quality, as it should not reach to Mand.

Chinta Agni never becomes cool, as is clear by its name. It always creates misery. When saints become Paramhans only then this becomes cool. Chita Agni is better than Chinta Agni.

Badva Agni is produced when man is angry. It creates much misery. It comes out from eyes. Water comes out from eyes in grief. Anger dies after that. If it is not dead, man becomes blind or irrational. It keeps creating trouble or pleasure for man.

Chita Agni is best. It gives pleasure, not misery. The saints roam in this world after being reduced to ashes by this fire. Hence, they remain unaffected by honor, pride, arrogance and insult. For this reason, this agni has been considered to be the best. It burns men and raises them to unknown heights through the medium of air. The Agni raises them to the sky through steam. Therefore, this is the quality of water.

Chita Agni separates each element into its components and distributes them. This Agni is not greedy. After enlightenment, one gets knowledge and (s)he, forgetting the pleasures of the material world, attains the original state which is the last stage which is called super consciousness. The stage of Super consciousness is God.

Sky is also of five types. One is the blue sky, as is visible to us. However, the scriptures describe five skies in this body. There are five types each of earth, water, fire, sky and air. All these combine to constitute the human body. Our Rishis have described it in our body’s reference. I am describing the same according to my own knowledge.

Ihan na pachhpat kuch rakhaun
Ved puran sant mat bakhaun
I am not putting forth my personal opinion here
I speak the views of Vedas, Puranas and saints

This is from the Ramayana. The First Sky is Brahmanda. It is difficult to see it. Our Rishis said that “Eko Brahm dvitiyo na asti” – Ultimate reality is one, there is nothing else. These are the attributes of the First and the most superior Sky.

Now, the second Sky is being described. The Vedas are called Shruti. They are also called ears. Just as sky has no apparent form, the element of ears cannot be found easily. Just as one cannot put one’s finger on the basic element of the sky, in the same way, even this cannot be caught. This is the Second sky of the body. This is another attribute of the sky.

Speech is the third sky. Descriptions are found of the aforementioned First Sky (Brahmanda) which is the most superior, the collision of whose ether causes speech. Thus, it is the form of sky in the body. The dumb person has void Brahmand. The Vedas attest to this fact.

How to account for the fourth sky? Tulsidas ji wrote about it when he describes the time when the bow was broken.
