G oddess Mahālaksͅamī is the fountain-head of all prosperity. She is the daughter of sea and consort of Lord Visͅnͅu. The term ‘S̒rī’ denotes her. The Mahālaksͅamyasͅtͅakam is taken from the Padma Purānͅa. Its composition is attributed to Indra who uttered it as salutation to Mother Mahālaksͅamī as She emerged from the great churning of the sea. It is mentioned in the Padma Purānͅa that reciting this regularly bestows upon the reader great glory and accomplishments. Any person who recites it daily once gets rid of great sins, twice accrues great wealth, and thrice annihilates great enemies and greatly pleases Goddess Mahālaksͅamī.
नमस्तेस्तु महामाये श्रीपीठे सुरपूजिते । शंखचक्रगदाहस्ते महालक्ष्मि नमोस्तु ते ।।1।।
Namastēstu Mahāmāyē S̒rīpītͅhē surapūjitē । aṅkhacakragadāhastē Mahālaksͅmi Namōstu tē ।।1।। Salutations to Mahamaya seated on the S̒ripītͅh, worshipped by gods Holding Conch Disc Mace in hands, Salutations to you Mahālaksͅamī
नमस्ते गरुडारूढे कोलासुरभयंकरी । सर्वपापहरे देवि महालक्ष्मि नमोस्तु ते ।।2।।
Namastē Garudārūdhē kōlāsurabhayaṅkarī । sarvapāpaharē dēvi Mahālaksͅmi Namōstu tē ।।2।। Salutations to the one scaring Kōlāsura (a demon) by riding the Garuda Goddess who removes of all sins, Salutations to you Mahālaksͅamī
सर्वज्ञे सर्ववरदे सर्वदुष्टभयंकरि । सर्वदुःखहरे देवि महालक्ष्मि नमोस्तु ते ।।3।।
Sarvagyē sarvavaradē sarvdusͅtͅabhayaṅkari । sarvaduhͅkhaharē dēvi Mahālaksͅmi Namōstu tē ।।3।। Omniscient, granter of boons to all, instiller of fear in the wicked Remover of all sorrows, Salutations to you Mahālaksͅamī
सिद्धिबुद्धिप्रदे देवि भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदायिनी । मन्त्रपूते सदा देवि महालक्ष्मि नमोस्तु ते ।।4।।
Siddhibuddhipradē dēvi bhuktimuktipradāyini । mantrapūtē sadā dēvi Mahālaksͅmi Namōstu tē ।।4।। Bestower of spiritual powers and intellect, Provider of material fruits and liberation Goddess Attainable through Mantra, Salutations to you forever Mahālaksͅamī
आद्यंतरहिते देवि आद्यशक्तिमहेश्वरि । योगजे योगसम्भूते महालक्ष्मि नमोस्तु ते ।।5।।
Ādyantarahitē dēvi Ādyas̒aktimahēs̒vari । Yogajē yogasambhūtē Mahālaksͅmi Namōstu tē ।।5।। Goddess without beginning or end, the Original Energy , Consort of Mahēs̒a Born and formed of Yoga, Salutations to you Mahālaksͅamī
स्थूलसूक्ष्ममहारौद्रे महाशक्तिमहोदरे । महापापहरे देवि महालक्ष्मि नमोस्तु ते ।।6।।
Sthūlasūksͅmamahāraudrē mahās̒aktimahōdarē । Mahāpāpaharē dēvi Mahālaksͅmi Namōstu tē ।।6।। Physical and subtle, very ferocious, very powerful, large bellied (all inclusive) Goddess who removes great sins, Salutations to you Mahālaksͅamī
पद्मासन स्थिति देवि परब्रह्मस्वरूपिणि । परमेशि जगन्मातर्महालक्ष्मि नमोस्तु ते ।।7।।
Padmāsanastithē dēvi parabrahmaswarūpinͅI । paramēs̒I jaganmātarmahālaksͅmi Namōstu tē ।।7।। Goddess seated on lotus/in lotus-position, Absolute in form The Goddess, Mother of universe, Salutations to you Mahālaksͅamī
श्वेताम्बरधरे देवि नानालङ्कारभूषिते । जगत्स्थिते जगन्मातर्महालक्ष्मि नमोस्तु ते ।।8।।
S̒wētāmbaradharē dēvi nānālaṅkārabhūsͅitē । Jagatsthitē jaganmātarmahālaksͅmi Namōstu tē ।।8।। Goddess dressed in white, adorned by various ornaments Pervading the universe, Mother of universe, Salutations to you Mahālaksͅamī
